View Full Version : Movie Poster Challenge

05-11-2018, 10:24 AM
This thread was a lot of fun on the old forums. it may have not been my turn, but it doesn't matter....Enjoy...

There is also a theme....

1. Batman Begins - Steve
2. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Steve
3. 40 Year Old Virgin - Steve
4. Fantastic 4 - Steve
5. Wedding Crashers - Prime
6. Brokeback Mountain - Steve
7. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - 'Plan
8. War of the Worlds - The Dude
9. Sin City - Steve

05-11-2018, 12:00 PM
You beat me to it.

I recognize almost all of these, but my brain is operating on limited functionality right now.

I know that 1 is Batman Begins.
2 is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
3 is The 40 Year Old Virgin.
I think 4 may be Fantastic 4.
6 is Brokeback Mountain.
9 is Sin City.

I know that I know the other three, but it's just not clicking.

I guess the theme is 2005?

05-11-2018, 12:02 PM
Well done on all so far and the theme.

The Dude
05-11-2018, 01:29 PM
Is 8 War of the Worlds?

05-11-2018, 01:56 PM
Why yes it is...

Samuel 'Plan
05-11-2018, 03:56 PM
I think 7 is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire? I might be wrong but I'm working on the presumption that the theme is films of 2005.

05-11-2018, 03:59 PM
You are correct sir.

Prime Time
05-11-2018, 06:21 PM
I'll see you home, with Wedding Crashers for #5.

05-13-2018, 11:03 AM
Great job, Steve is up.

05-15-2018, 01:05 PM
Alright, here we go. There is a theme. I think that two of these could be potentially tricky due to them not being the most super well known flicks in the world or anything. One could be somewhat tricky just due to the image chosen.

1. Predator (sheepster)
2. Robocop (sheepster)
3. Evil Dead 2 (Spinmaster)
4. Adventures in Babysitting (Powder)
5. Good Morning Vietnam (Gooner)
6. A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 3: Dream Warriors (Powder)
7. Three Men and a Baby (Spinmaster)
8. Hellraiser (Spinmaster)
9. Throw Momma From The Train (sheepster)

05-15-2018, 06:18 PM
5. is Good Morning Vietnam I believe. That's the only one that is shouting out to me at the moment.

05-16-2018, 12:13 AM
Got it.

Prime Time
05-16-2018, 05:44 AM
Drawing a blank so far, but I know that I know number 7.

05-17-2018, 12:49 PM
Do we need clues already?

05-17-2018, 01:58 PM
Some are very familiar, but clues would be helpful.

205 Clive
05-17-2018, 03:19 PM
Is #3 either The Descent, or I Spit On Your Grave?

05-18-2018, 12:49 AM
Neither are right, Clive.

A reminder that there is a theme. Pretty hard to uncover when only one has been guessed, though.

Here are some clues.

#1 was the first of a series of films, the latest of which will be coming before long.
#2 is probably the most violent film I've ever seen that had an accompanying toy line and cartoon series.
#3 is an iconic film within its genre and is probably the most well regarded of a franchise that only recently met its end.
#4 was hyping Thor LONG before anyone knew of any Hemsworths.
#6 is generally cited as the fan favorite of a film series that would go on to boast 9 films in total.
#7 does not have a ghost in it, regardless of what you may have heard.
#8 is one that I would surely Lament you not having seen.
#9 is the most vague of all these movies, I would argue, despite being an excellent dark comedy and one of its stars being among the most beloved figures in modern television.

05-18-2018, 12:00 PM
3. A Nightmare on Elm Street?
7. Drop Dead Fred?

All guesses.

05-18-2018, 04:38 PM
Neither is correct, unfortunately.

205 Clive
05-20-2018, 05:16 PM
Sticking with a guess for 3, and the link is a very thin thread.

Is #3 The Ring? And is theme - movies which are set in the Far East?

05-22-2018, 02:52 PM
Number 7 is 3 men and a baby????

05-22-2018, 07:32 PM
4 is Adventures in Babysitting. I knew it from the start, but damn. Vincent D’Onfrio as Thor is awesome.

05-23-2018, 12:08 AM
#3 is not The Ring, and the theme isn't movies set in the Far East. That'd be a really interesting potential theme, though!

Three Men and a Baby and Adventures in Babysitting are both correct.

Here's another batch of clues to maybe get this rolling harder.

#1 produced one of the most iconic catchphrases identified with arguably the most iconic 80s and 90s action star. Come on, guys, you know this one. Get to it.

#2 is great, but I'd have loved to have seen the main villain threaten to put his foot up someone's ass just once.

#3 is so good it definitely deserves a hand.

Remember the era when horror movies had cool songs written especially for them? #6 boasts perhaps the best of the bunch.

#8 is so iconic that I'm puzzled no one has gotten it yet.

#9 is, again, the most vague of this bunch. That being said, it was the directorial debut of one of its stars and actually one of the highest grossing films in its year of release, grossing a good bit more than even some fairly iconic flicks also released that year. Hell, it even garnered an Oscar nomination for one of its stars. Despite perhaps not being widely remembered, at the time it came out the accolades kept right on chugging along.

05-23-2018, 07:38 AM
1. Terminator
3. Saw
6. Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. Again, I knew it...but not sure.

05-23-2018, 01:06 PM
Dream Warriors is correct. The other two, unfortunately, are not.

If the Saw guess was based upon my latest clue, I feel the need to point out that the dude in that flick cut off a foot, not a hand. lol

05-23-2018, 01:12 PM
Number 3 is Evil Dead II?

05-23-2018, 02:12 PM
Number 2 is Evil Dead II.

205 Clive
05-25-2018, 12:55 AM
I see I was very close with my Far East cinema theme. Ahem...

I'm so stumped with these bad boys.

05-25-2018, 12:10 PM
I suppose a few more hints are in order.

The theme pertains to the year of release for this group of films.

I'm not gonna give a hint for #1. I ain't got time for hints.

I mentioned how the villain in #2 never once threatened to put his foot up someone's ass. Thing is, I'm not sure the main protagonist even has an bunghole with which to accommodate said foot even if he had.

#8 will give one a whole new appreciation for the beauty product line Olay's slogan from a few years back.

If you asked Jason Vorhees or Forrest Gump if they liked #9, I get the feeling they would reply in the negative.

05-26-2018, 01:04 PM
Number 2 is Robocop perhaps?

I don't understand how no one has guessed at number 9 yet. Look at the difference in shoe sizes. That's clearly Danny DeVito. It's got to be Throw Momma From The Train.

05-26-2018, 01:10 PM
Your clue for number 1 threw me off. Greatest action star, sure. But which catchphrase? I reckon that's the part that threw Powder off with his guess.

If it ain't Terminator, it's got to be a god damned sexual tyrannosaurus.

Wait. I mean Predator.

05-26-2018, 02:12 PM
Predator, Robocop and Throw Momma From the Train are correct. The line I was referencing in #1, for the record, was, "Get to the chopper!".

Man, I just knew that 1 and 2 would go super early. This has been a surprising turn of events.

All that's left is #8. The title is a compound word, with the latter half evoking thoughts of Scott Hall.

sheepster currently sits in the lead but Powder or Spinny could make it interesting if they guess the final one. Shouldn't be too hard after that fairly blatant clue.

05-26-2018, 08:24 PM
The clues make me think its one movie but the picture doesn't evoke that movie in my mind. Oh well, let's go for it. Hellraiser???

05-27-2018, 02:02 AM
It is, indeed, Hellraiser. The image is the burst of light coming from the puzzlebox in Pinhead's hands.

We have ourselves a tie between Spinmaster and sheepster. Spinny was the first of the two to make a correct guess, but sheepster was the first to get to three correct answers. Kind of a toss-up, honestly. I'll let you guys determine who's going next.

06-04-2018, 10:29 AM
Any movement on this? Feels like it has died out :(

Prime Time
06-04-2018, 11:09 AM
In the old version of the game I think Spinmaster would have won it if he got the first correct answer - I don't know if that helps decice and hurry us towards a nice challenge...

06-04-2018, 11:12 AM
I thought it went to Spin bc he got the most correct.

Prime Time
06-04-2018, 11:18 AM
No, Sheep and Spin both got three right.

06-05-2018, 03:21 PM
I'm just gonna flip a coin. Spin is heads, sheep is tails.

Heads it is. Spinmaster, you're up, my man.

06-06-2018, 07:52 AM
If I can get one together before Spinmaster does, I'll be posting it up regardless and stealing the win too.

06-07-2018, 11:34 AM
Go for it Sheep! I've been away from my computer for the last week and will be for a few more days which means I cannot make a new one at this time. Should I get lucky and win the next one I should be back and good to go then!!! Sorry folks.

Prime Time
06-19-2018, 10:42 AM
As this has been nearly two weeks I'd say that anyone who wants to get it going again should feel free to post a new challenge.

06-19-2018, 11:43 AM
Yeah, I was thinking that myself. I'll go.

This one has no overarching theme or anything. I'm thinking it should be of moderate difficulty. Most of them are pretty well known and I think only one, maybe two, will be a potential stumper. I've been proven wrong about that before, though, so...

1) The Matrix (Prime Time)
2) Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (Gooner)
3) Aliens (Powder)
4) Oliver & Company (Rob S.)
5) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Gooner)
6) Gremlins ('Plan)
7) Avengers: Infinity War (Powder)
8) Through the Never (Powder)
9) Beavis and Butt-Head Do America (Gooner)

Prime Time
06-19-2018, 11:45 AM
Several ringing a bell but the only one immediately jumping out at me is 1) The Matrix.

06-19-2018, 11:57 AM
I kinda figured that'd be among the first to go.

06-19-2018, 12:28 PM
5. Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. Which everyone should go out of their way to watch.

06-19-2018, 01:16 PM
Right. And right.

06-19-2018, 01:29 PM
8 Through The Never, the Metallica movie

3 is the alternate Aliens poster

9 looks like a comic version of Easy Rider, if it’s not Easy Rider, that is Definitely Wyatt and Billy though

7 Infinity War

06-19-2018, 07:41 PM
3 is actually the original Aliens poster, not an alternate. For whatever reason they produced the more popularly known one, as well.

8, 3, and 7 are correct. 9 is not.

06-19-2018, 08:05 PM
9 hmmm....

06-20-2018, 05:31 AM
I think 9 is actually Beavis and Butthead Do America?

06-20-2018, 07:56 AM
I believe you are right....good pull.

06-20-2018, 12:23 PM
That is correct. Just watched it a couple weeks ago and it's still great.

06-21-2018, 12:30 PM
For the sake of keeping things moving along at a decent clip, how about some clues?

#2 is arguably the best rendition of the main character ever seen in a theatrically released motion picture. Pretty impressive when you consider they've appeared in 12.

#4 sits right on the outskirts of a famous Renaissance and thus hasn't gotten the love that its later contemporary films have. Kinda sad, too, because it's a really fun flick.

#6 is an iconic film from its decade, so much so that it's actually kinda hard to give a hint without giving it away. Even if I did give it away, though, chances are an old Chinese dude would just come and take it back.

06-21-2018, 01:14 PM
Aha! 2 is Batman: Mask of the Phantasm. Based on the animated series

Samuel 'Plan
06-21-2018, 04:59 PM
Well 6 is definitely Gremlins.

Saw that last Christmas for the first time. Call me heretical, but I didn't really like it all that much....

06-22-2018, 12:32 AM
Mask of the Phantasm is correct.

So, too, is Gremlins. Heretic.

We have ourselves a tie. Perhaps it can be broken by #4.

Rob S.
06-22-2018, 08:40 AM
4 is A Goofy Movie

06-22-2018, 11:37 AM
That is unfortunately wrong. You're in the right ballpark, though.

Rob S.
06-22-2018, 01:04 PM
Oliver and Company

06-23-2018, 08:46 PM
Sorry for the delay. Been a busy day over here.

Oliver & Company is correct. Really fun flick that fell just before The Little Mermaid put Disney back on the map with their famed "Disney Renaissance" run of films.

This one ends in yet another tie between Gooner and Powder. As Gooner got the first correct answer with Eternal Sunshine, that means he's up next.

06-24-2018, 05:49 PM

No theme.

1) ET - Powder
2) Aladdin - Steve
3) Avengers: Age of Ultron - Powder
4) Drive - Prime Time
5) Superman Returns - Powder
6) Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone - Prime Time
7) Moonlight - Spinmaster
8) Blue Is The Warmest Colour - SirSam
9)Little Miss Sunshine - Powder

06-25-2018, 11:44 AM
1. ET
9. Little Miss Sunshine
3. Age of Ultron
5. Superman Returns
6. Friday the 13th Part 2

06-25-2018, 12:04 PM
1, 3, 5 and 9 are correct. 6 is not.

06-25-2018, 02:49 PM
7- Moonlight?

06-25-2018, 03:00 PM
Yep, correct

06-27-2018, 04:17 AM
Time for some clues:

2) This film became the fourteenth (and the first animated) movie to gross more than 200 million dollars.
4) The main character wears a satin jacket with the logo of a golden scorpion on the back.
6) Probably the biggest film on the board, has spawned multiple sequels, with more in development.
8) I realise now that this is an alternative movie poster (apologies). The film won the 2013 Palme d'Or at the Cannes Festival and is a French coming-of-age LGBT romantic drama film

Prime Time
06-27-2018, 09:13 AM
OK so 4) and 6) are Drive and Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone?

The animated one has me stumped. I'm sure the grossing thing is Snow White but I don't recognise the poster as being anything related to that.

06-27-2018, 09:48 AM
Yep, 4 and 6 are correct.

Snow White is perhaps a bit too old to be grossing 200 million dollars at the cinema?

Prime Time
06-27-2018, 10:50 AM
The figure I've seen for it is double that.... in fact I'll just double check

Hmm... maybe. Seeing a bunch of different figures now some that indicate an adjustment for inflation, some that don't, some that include an aggregate of releases, some that don't. Much less certain of that. But anyway, either way it's clearly not the answer in the picture!

06-27-2018, 11:25 AM
Based on the numbers I found, Snow White made $66.5 million upon its initial release which, for 1937, is astronomical. Over the course if its life with subsequent rereleases and such, it appears to have made just under $200 million. That's not adjusted for inflation, of course. If inflation is taken into account, the film has earned just below a billion dollars. If you consider the inflation thing, that makes it the most successful animated feature of all time, though not by the massive margin you might think. 101 Dalmatians isn't all that far behind and would probably catch up to it if that flick got another rerelease.

All of that having been said, I'm pretty sure it's Aladdin, which happens to be my favorite Disney movie. I had the score back in the day and it featured that image on the cover.

I have no clue on 8, though. Perhaps a bit too vague for my usual viewing habits.

06-27-2018, 12:17 PM
Aladdin is correct. I get the trivia from imdb, so not how accurate that is.

06-28-2018, 01:35 AM
#8 has something to do about the color blue is all I remember. Maybe that helps someone else

06-28-2018, 02:04 AM
8 - Blue is the Warmest Colour

06-28-2018, 04:03 AM
Blue is indeed the warmest colour. That's the one. Powder is up.

Prime Time
06-28-2018, 04:05 AM
For the record, Steve's figure tracks close to the US Gross figures I'd seen, with a purported world wide gross of nearly $420m....

Serious cash whichever way you look at it.

06-28-2018, 07:37 AM
Blue is indeed the warmest colour. That's the one. Powder is up.

I'll get on this tonight...

06-28-2018, 06:09 PM
Here we go....No Theme, just movies I enjoy.

1. Shawshank Redemption - Prime Time
2. Batman - Prime Time
3. Godzilla 2014 - Heisenberg
4. Ocean's 11 - Steve
5. Dogma - Steve
8. Deadpool - Gooner
9. Superman: The Movie - Steve

06-28-2018, 06:45 PM
1 - The Godfather 2
9 - The Wizard of Oz

Not terribly confident with either one of those but there you go.

06-28-2018, 07:00 PM
Neither are correct.

Prime Time
06-28-2018, 07:09 PM
Is 2) Batman?

06-28-2018, 07:39 PM

06-28-2018, 08:50 PM
5 is Dogma

9 is Superman: The Movie

4 is the Ocean's Eleven remake

06-28-2018, 09:34 PM
All correct

06-29-2018, 04:08 AM
8. Deadpool?

06-29-2018, 06:45 AM

06-30-2018, 11:05 AM
Seems like 3 is one of the Tobey Maguire SpiderMan movies, but Iím not sure which. So... Iíll go with the first one.

06-30-2018, 04:52 PM
3 is not any of the 6 Spider-man movies, and it is NOT a comic book movie either for that matter.

06-30-2018, 11:02 PM
Hmmm.... thatís definitely the New York skyline, though...

07-01-2018, 06:33 AM
No it isn't.

07-02-2018, 12:35 AM
Is 3 perhaps Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol?

07-02-2018, 06:35 AM

Hints for the final three:

3. This movie is the reboot of a classic franchise that has spawned 39 movies since the 1950s.

6. 1980s classic movie with a culminating boat race

7. A road trip movie filled with tons of cameos set in the late 90s.

07-02-2018, 08:15 AM
Agh. 3’s gotta be Godzilla then.

07-02-2018, 05:40 PM
that's correct!!!

07-02-2018, 08:46 PM
Is 7 Eurotrip?

07-02-2018, 09:40 PM
no, not Eurotrip. The movie is set in the late 90s, and the trip has a very specific purpose.

07-03-2018, 03:51 AM
7. Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle?

Prime Time
07-03-2018, 04:21 AM
I don't recognise the poster but the only film I know of right now that ended with a boat race was Summer Rental?

07-03-2018, 07:22 AM
Not Harold and Kumar as it is NOT set in the late 90s, and Summer Rental is a great guess. Right time period, but wrong movie. There was another movie with 2 very well known stars that were very young, with a culminating boat race.

So another round of hints:

6. The Big Guy from #3 has a semi cameo in the movie, and there are animated voice overs.

7. The road trip is to help a sick friend.

Samuel 'Plan
07-04-2018, 03:49 PM
Is 1 The Bucket List?

07-04-2018, 05:01 PM
No, and sorry for the lack of hints for #1. The hints so far...

Hints for the final three:

6. 1980s classic movie with a culminating boat race

7. A road trip movie filled with tons of cameos set in the late 90s.

Summer Rental is a great guess. Right time period, but wrong movie. There was another movie with 2 very well known stars that were very young, with a culminating boat race.

So another round of hints:

6. The Big Guy from #3 has a semi cameo in the movie, and there are animated voice overs.

7. The road trip is to help a sick friend.

Hints, round three:

1. One of the main characters is Irish, but portrayed as a black man.

6. 1980s movie where the main character's basketball nickname is ironic.

7. This movie poster when seen in full has an all time iconic mask taking up most of the poster.

07-07-2018, 03:05 PM

Prime Time
07-07-2018, 03:21 PM
Is 1) Shawshank Redemption?

07-07-2018, 05:25 PM
Why yes it is sir.

07-11-2018, 07:19 AM
In the interest of moving on:

6 is One Crazy Summer

7 is Fanboys

Steve is up.

07-12-2018, 02:36 PM
Alrighty, here we go. This one has no theme aside from the fact that I'm quite fond of all of them. I tried to make it a mix of stuff that will (probably) be pretty obvious and stuff that may require a bit more thought. None of the films pictured are terribly vague, though, as I feel that kinda takes the fun out of it to some degree.

1) Spider-Man: Homecoming (Rob S.)
2) I Love You Phillip Morris (meandi)
3) IT (Heisenberg)
4) The Devil's Rejects (nobody)
5) Forrest Gump (Powder)
6) Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (Powder)
7) The Program (Powder)
8) Demolition Man (Powder)
9) John Wick (meandi)

07-12-2018, 03:21 PM
#2 is I love you Phillip Morris

07-12-2018, 05:45 PM
5 is Forrest Gump

6 is Homeward Bound, a great movie that is completely forgotten

8 is Demolition Man...great movie BTW

07-12-2018, 09:07 PM
All correct so far.

Homeward Bound really is a great movie. Very charming. And Demolition Man is a really good time. I don't think people rate that movie enough.

And for the record, I Love You Phillip Morris is a fantastic movie, as well.

07-13-2018, 04:06 AM
Is 9. Constantine?

07-13-2018, 06:34 AM
Steve, you labeled who got the correct answers incorrectly.

07-13-2018, 08:43 AM
I was just about to say that. Iím only good for #2.

07-13-2018, 10:51 AM
3 has to be IT

07-13-2018, 01:58 PM
Sorry about the labeling issue.

9 is not Constantine... but close.

3 is IT.

07-13-2018, 03:14 PM
Is 9 John Wick?

Rob S.
07-13-2018, 03:17 PM
1 is Spider Man Homecoming

07-13-2018, 03:47 PM
Both correct. I guess my teeny little hint for #9 maybe gave it away.

07-13-2018, 04:17 PM
Yeah, pretty much

07-17-2018, 10:21 PM
I suppose it's time for some clues for the remaining two.

#4 is a sequel and seemed to be the final installment... until a follow-up was announced a few months back.
#7 is a quality early 90s flick about a very specific aspect of college life. Doesn't get much hype among it's genre peers, but I think it should.

07-18-2018, 07:26 AM
7 is the Program, and the movie was well ahead of its time. If the Program came out 10 years later it would be the standard of College football corruption. Same for Blue Chips.

07-18-2018, 02:52 PM
Iíve been wanting to say #4 is Boondock Saints, so with the clue of it being a sequel, Iíll go Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day

07-18-2018, 05:58 PM
Powder, you got The Program correct. I love that movie and consider it very underrated.

Unfortunately #4 is not Boondock Saints.

In an effort to go ahead and knock out this last one, I'll go ahead and make with another clue.

#4's lead actress has also featured in literally every single one of the director's other (fiction based) efforts, up to and including his television work.

07-20-2018, 04:52 PM
My previous clue for #4? The reason for that may be due to a bit of nepotism. Or a lot of nepotism.

07-21-2018, 03:26 PM
The main characters in #4 aren't welcome in the realm of Hades.

07-24-2018, 04:38 PM
Alright, I think it's been long enough that to drag it out any further would be a hindrance to the flow of the fun.

#4 is The Devil's Rejects.

Powder takes the win! You're up, man.

07-24-2018, 04:59 PM
As soon as I saw the answer for #4, a lightbulb went off over my head and the nepotism clue made all the sense in the world

07-24-2018, 07:00 PM
Well, here is the new challenge. There is a broad theme, but none of the movies are directly connected, but the theme is there.

1. A Clockwork Orange - meandi
2. Heathers - Steve
3. The Crow - Steve
4. The Big Lebowski - Steve
5. Dazed and Confused - Steve
6. Army of Darkness - Steve
7. They Live - Steve
8. Big Trouble in Little China - meandi
9. Donnie Darko - Gooner

07-24-2018, 10:26 PM
3 is The Crow.
4 is The Big Lebowski
5 is Dazed and Confused
6 is Army of Darkness
7 is They Live

The others look familiar but that's what springs to mind at moment.

07-25-2018, 06:07 AM
Well done Steve, all are correct, with 6, get ready for the next contest.

07-27-2018, 09:04 AM
So the first round of hints:

1. Probably the first movie to glorify violence.
2. One of the main character asks to be violated with a tree pruning device.
8. A remake is in the works with one of the biggest stars on the planet, but no one can figure out why.
9. This movie has a very intriguing Leporidae in it.

07-27-2018, 12:04 PM
Not sure if this counts as I had to google what Leporidae meant!

But 9 is Donnie Darko

07-27-2018, 03:17 PM
Is 1 A Clockwork Orange?

07-27-2018, 03:20 PM
Both correct. And yes it counts.

Also, with 7 of 9 done, anyone want to take a stab at the theme?

07-29-2018, 10:39 AM
Second round of hints:

2: Three of the characters have the same name
8. A trucker stumbles into an Asian turf war.

07-29-2018, 02:00 PM
8 is Big Trouble In Little China

07-29-2018, 05:00 PM

07-31-2018, 06:50 PM
Last clue for #2:

One of the main character asks to be violated with a tree pruning device.

Three of the characters have the same name

The Movie is a high school black comedy about suicide.

08-01-2018, 12:04 PM
Ah. It's Heathers.

08-01-2018, 07:23 PM
Yes, and the theme was Cult favorites Movies.

Steve, you are up.

08-07-2018, 12:42 PM

1) Cool Runnings (Powder)
2) Bride of Chucky (Powder)
3) Hook (meandi)
4) Driving Miss Daisy (Rob)
5) Heavy Metal (Rob)
6) Back To The Future Part 3 (Rob)
7) High Fidelity (meandi)
8) Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (Rob)
9) Look Who's Talking (Rob)

Rob S.
08-07-2018, 01:38 PM
Is 2 Scream?

4 is Driving Miss Daisy
5 is Heavy Metal
6 is Back to the Future 3
8 is Pee Wee's Big Adventure
9 is Look Who's Talking

EDIT: Thanks meandi

08-07-2018, 02:46 PM
7 is High Fidelity. I should be a butthead and steal 8 & 9, but... Rob, check your numbering.

08-10-2018, 10:32 PM
All correct thus far. I figured this one would be pretty easy.

Rob's already got the win sewn up, so I'll make with clues to speed this along.

You know #1 if you just think about it. Come on, get on up.

#2 was a major return to prominence for a horror icon that had fallen on hard times in the early 90s, largely aided by adding lots of humor and a ridiculously hot chick.

The elbow you see there in #3? The actress it belongs to was notoriously difficult to work with on the film. She looked great, though.

08-11-2018, 08:15 AM
2 is Bride of Chucky

08-12-2018, 11:28 PM
Right on.

To get #1 you may need to feel the rhythm and/or rhyme.

#3 stars one of the greatest comedic minds of all-time, though he had a humanity and pathos that allowed him much more depth than simple "funny guy" that he displayed quite well in this film.

08-13-2018, 06:52 AM
1 is Cool Runnings, Junior Bevil

08-13-2018, 11:49 PM
I have a feeling I know the actor youíre talking about... I just canít quite place it.

08-15-2018, 07:50 PM
The second lead in #3 would be very concerned to hear the clock ticking away on this one. Definitely. Definitely worried about the clock.

08-15-2018, 07:57 PM
3 is Hook

08-15-2018, 08:02 PM

Wait, that was a movie about a dog. It's Hook.

You're up, Senor Simmons.

08-15-2018, 08:54 PM
A song you mean? Or was there a movie about a dog where they just spelled his name and clapped?

Rob S.
08-17-2018, 02:00 PM
I'll have something up in the next day or so

08-17-2018, 02:44 PM

Samuel 'Plan
08-18-2018, 07:21 AM
That looks like it is quite possibly the single most Steve-film ever made....

08-18-2018, 09:44 AM
How have I never heard of that? I really thought you were confusing that for Benji.

08-19-2018, 01:45 AM
The poster is one of the most fiercely early 90s things I've ever seen. I kinda want to seek it out and buy it and hang it upon my wall in a place of honor.

Rob S.
08-23-2018, 12:46 PM
I'm going away on Monday and will probably not get to this to set up a new one, so if someone else wants to go feel free.

Prime Time
09-13-2018, 01:14 PM
I guess you might be back now Rob, if you wanted to pick this back up again.

Failing that, I suppose the chance should fall to Powder or Meandi for coming joint-second.

09-13-2018, 08:48 PM
If Rob isnít around, let Powder tackle the next one. My laptop is being wonky right now, so most of my net surfing is via my cell phone.

09-14-2018, 07:37 AM
I will see what I can do. It might have to wait until the weekend.

09-14-2018, 11:34 AM
Ok, I had free time over lunch. Here we go. There is an overall theme.

1. Talladega Nights - LWO4Life
2. Blind Side - LWO4Life
3. Miracle - LWO4Life
4. Sandlot - LWO4Life
5. Field of Dreams - LWO4Life
6. Major League - LWO4Life
7. Mighty Ducks - Gooner
8. Rudy - LWO4Life
9. Blue Chips - meandi

Theme: Sports Films - Gooner

EDIT: I don't know why the pic isn't just there, not sure why you have to click on it.

09-14-2018, 12:21 PM
Yeah it's fiddly since the new LOP.

And my guess for 7 will be mighty ducks. Theme is sports films?

09-14-2018, 12:30 PM
Thanks, and yes and yes!!!

09-14-2018, 01:12 PM
4. Sandlot.
2. The Blind Side
6. Major League
1. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

All correct except 5 and 9

09-14-2018, 03:34 PM
9 is Blue Chips

09-14-2018, 03:45 PM

09-15-2018, 12:08 PM
Got it LWO...

09-25-2018, 09:50 AM
LWO you are up....

09-25-2018, 02:40 PM
Oh... okay... get something up tomorrow... I get my phone back tonight, I had it fixed... and I can do photo edits there.

10-03-2018, 10:40 AM
Okay, I tap out in trying to do movie poster collage.

10-03-2018, 11:17 AM

10-03-2018, 11:49 AM
Iíll work on one tonight when I get home from work.

10-03-2018, 02:32 PM

11-05-2018, 09:22 AM
Thought about giving this thread a little boost. There is a theme, and it is still relevant.

1. Shining - Gooner
2. Exorcist- Gooner
3. Scream - Plan
4. Halloween - Plan
5. A Nightmare on Elm Street- Gooner
6. Hellraiser- Gooner
7. The Omen - Prime Time
9. Psycho - Prime Time

Prime Time
11-05-2018, 09:30 AM
Edit the link in without trying to attach it and I'll see what I can do.

11-05-2018, 10:17 AM
Not sure what you mean.

Prime Time
11-05-2018, 10:22 AM
I need the actual link for where the image is.

11-05-2018, 10:26 AM
it is a jpeg on my computer.

Prime Time
11-05-2018, 10:28 AM
I don't know how to fix that, then. I've only been able to work it with things hosted elsewhere on the net.

I can look into it a bit deeper when I get to a computer.

11-05-2018, 10:29 AM
No problem...thanks. Well then for the rest of everyone....just click on the picture....good luck

11-05-2018, 10:52 AM
edit: this was supposed to be a new post

11-05-2018, 11:49 AM
Yes perfect...

11-05-2018, 12:04 PM
1. The Shining
2. The Exorcist
3. Silence of the Lambs
5. Nightmare on Elm Street
6. Hellraiser

11-05-2018, 12:09 PM
Silence of the Lambs is incorrect, but the rest are correct.

Samuel 'Plan
11-10-2018, 07:57 AM
I think 3 might be Scream? And 4 is Halloween, if nobody has gotten it yet.

11-20-2018, 06:27 AM
9. The Amityville Horror?

11-20-2018, 08:29 AM
No not Amityville Hoprror....

I guess it's hint time:

7. This is the original movie, even though there was a bad remake. And this movie spawned 2 sequels.
8. This movie had one of the better twist endings and is the start of a franchise
9. Again this is the original movie that had a bad remake, and had 3 sequels and is an all time classic.

Prime Time
12-10-2018, 10:06 AM
I don't really know horror movies so I didn't look at this one too closely at first. But I reckon 7) might be The Omen?

12-10-2018, 12:13 PM
7. 7 is the Omen...

Hints for 8 and 9.

8 has one of the best twists in any horror movie....
9 is the first time a flushing toilet was ever shown on screen.

Prime Time
12-10-2018, 12:19 PM
Re-read your last clue for 8 and you'll see why that's not really very helpful....

But 9, isn't that famously supposed to be Psycho, with the toilet thing?

Just for the record, in general saying things are 'the best' or whatever aren't really good clues because if someone doesn't agree with you, they'll never think of it to get it. Better to stick to things that are more factual, that can be verified, and will hit everyone the same way.

12-10-2018, 01:32 PM
Fair point...

#9 is Psycho, and yes that is one of the things Psycho is known for. The use of chocolate syrup for blood in the shower scene is another. The fact that Janet Leigh, the biggest name (star) gets killed off less than half way through the movie is another.

And clue for 8. This movie started a franchise where the main antagonist was mainly only spoken of in the first movie

12-10-2018, 05:10 PM
8 would be Friday The 13th. For what itís worth, the clue of greatest twist made me initially think of this. The latest clue confirmed it.

12-10-2018, 05:52 PM
And it is Friday the 13th. Gooner is up.

But, to address Prime's point again, now that the contest is over, Friday the 13th, the original does have the greatest twist in a horror movie in that the entire movie they male you think the killer is Jason, but then it turns out to be his mother. The original Sleepaway Camp, had the second greatest twist. Too bad Pen15 is no longer around to confirm.

12-11-2018, 01:29 PM
There is a theme....

1. Lego Batman - Powder
3. Logan - Powder
5. 50 Shades Darker - Powder
9. A Dog's Purpose - Powder

12-11-2018, 01:34 PM
1. Lego Batman
3. Logan
5. 50 Shades Freed
9. A Dog's Purpose

12-11-2018, 06:49 PM
1, 3 and 9 is correct. 5 is incorrect, but only just, if you get what I mean...

12-11-2018, 07:19 PM
50 Shades Darker?

12-12-2018, 10:28 AM
yep, that's the one

12-18-2018, 05:44 AM

1. Lego Batman - Powder
2. Split - Powder
3. Logan - Powder
5. 50 Shades Darker - Powder
8. Baby Driver - Prime Time
9. A Dog's Purpose - Powder

Clue time

2. Sequel, but not marketed as such. 2nd part in a trilogy.
4. Little known film consisting of a gay activist who renounces homosexuality and becomes a Christian pastor.
6. The making and distribution of this movie was funded through Kickstarter.
7. Box office bomb, starring the actor that plays Beast from X-Men.
8. Film is perhaps more known for it's soundtrack, which is integral to the film's plot.

Prime Time
12-18-2018, 06:10 AM
I think I'm on the board. 8) sounds like (and looks like it could be) Baby Driver.

12-18-2018, 07:03 AM
Baby Driver is indeed correct.

12-18-2018, 12:49 PM
Is 2 Split?

12-18-2018, 01:27 PM
Yes, which means you have 5 and win the contest.

If no more guesses arrive by tomorrow, I'll post the answers to get this moving.

12-18-2018, 01:41 PM
Sounds good

12-19-2018, 08:33 AM
I'm al; ready to to, you let me know when.

12-19-2018, 10:54 AM
Go for it

4 was I Am Michael
6 was Donald Cried
7 was Collide

12-19-2018, 11:39 AM
Will do. What was your theme?

And here is the next challenge...and there is definitely a theme, but it may be a bit too easy...

2. Home Alone - Gooner
9. Scrooged - Prime Time

12-19-2018, 11:41 AM
Ah yes, they were all released (at least in the UK) in 2017.

Prime Time
12-19-2018, 12:02 PM
Ha, there is a theme and it is quite straightforward... but I'm going to choose not to kill it stone dead in one. I'll limit myself to saying 9) is Scrooged?

12-19-2018, 12:13 PM
Yes, I figured a little straightforward one is a nice break in the action.

And yes 9 is Scrooged.

Prime Time
12-19-2018, 12:16 PM
No argument here. Feels appropriate, and hopefully it'll get some new faces playing.

12-20-2018, 08:35 AM

just to make it easier to view

2. Home Alone

12-20-2018, 09:02 AM
Thanks. I still do not know why, when I upload pictures it doesn't upload them like this? Prime said he wasn't sure either....

But yes 2 is Home Alone

12-21-2018, 06:05 AM
I've started to just edit a previous post where it worked and swap the link around. It is annoyingly difficult.

01-30-2019, 08:31 AM
Well this died a slow painful death. Anyone want to have a go?

01-30-2019, 09:41 AM
1 was Die Hard
3 Elf
4 Christmas Vacation
5 The Santa Clause
6 Gremlins
7 How The Grinch Stole Christmas
8 A Christmas Story

Theme was obviously Christmas.

10-08-2019, 09:37 AM
Giving this thread a bump....

Anyone want to play again? If so I can generate a new game....

02-21-2020, 09:19 AM
This is a little different as I used fan posters to make it slightly trickier.
