Looks like weíll be getting another new Prime Minister.

In the time Iíve been voting no PM has last a full term, that seems insane to me. Iíll be honest it has made a political cynic out of me pretty quickly. Our government is not run to serve the people but instead the egos of the faceless men who are now changing the PM for no real political reason other than they can.

As the great writer Joe Hildebrand proclaimed in his amazing column, the ALP killed democracy in this country, the Libs have now dug up and desecrated the corpse.

How are things shaking out there for the new guy? Morrison, is it?

09-08-2018, 01:14 AM
Yeah Scott Morrison, the conservative faction that was doing the unsettling ended up losing big time and Morrison, who was basically the previous PM's deputy, and originally voted for the previous PM to stay was elected by the party.

So I hear there's needles in your fruit now?

The story made it overseas then.

It's actually totally crazy how it all developed. It seems it started as a disgruntled employee at a Strawberry distribution outlet but it got a ton of press and a number of copy cat incidents have happened as a result, one was a 12 year old girl but it is probably next to impossible to catch all of them. Strawberries have basically been taken out of shops at this point and are just getting put in the ground. We are being advised to cut up everything that is bigger than a berry before we eat it in case it contains a need.

I feel really sorry for the strawberry farmers who are losing probably millions of dollars, farming in this sunburnt country is hard enough without adding silliness like this.

The Aussie stories that get reported here are strange. It's like we only pick stuff that fits with a certain image of the place.

The prompt for this is the report that a week ago they took the wrong bloke to the sentencing of a high-profile murder case. Just got someone with the same name. Close enough, I suppose.

Still... As much as it raises a smile, not exactly essential news, is it?

I hear that they are having some weather issues in Queensland? Not too serious I hope...

Continuing the theme of the Aussie stories we get here... I see there's now 46 million misspelled bank notes out there...

Indeed, I work in a bank and we actually got notification that we are to accept them as legal tender and that tee misspelling isn't a fraud flag. Lol

Funny you get that and not our election that is currently happening.

We used to hear more about it in the days of John Howard through to Julia Gillard, but nowadays I only ever hear about Aussie politics when they are knifing each other in the back, or someone gets hit with an egg.

.... or when you lose possibly your best Prime Minister in living memory. RIP Bob Hawke. Made an impact on the consciousness of a lot of people slightly older than me here than any leader Australia has had since.

Also the world record holder for sculling a Yard Glass of beer.

He managed to be an incredible statesman who pushed through a number of huge reforms to our economy but also maintained a link to the everyday person and not in a contrived way but in a way that felt very genuine and honest.

Truly one of our absolute greatest.

Sadly his party the Australian Labor Party lost the election they should have won the day after.

Those bush fired going on look like serious bad news....

^ This post is talking about fires that were nothing compared with the last few weeks.

01-18-2020, 02:15 AM
Well they basically didn't stop.

It is different fires and different areas but since that post they basically haven't stopped.

We have always had bad bushfires over summer but this is at an insane level. The scale is absolutely unprecedented.

Everything I read about it makes it seem like a pretty damn serious situation. Are things finally turning for the better at least?
