    Pop Music

Gotta say that I'm a sucker for a good pop song. There is of course a lot of commercialised garbage out there but every now and again the machine churns out something very special. Here are two that have caught my ear recently.

While the first one is a pretty standard btu very fun pop song the second one by Billie Ellish is particularly cool and quite dark and subdued for something that seems to have become very popular.

I absolutely love that Billie Eilish song. It’s almost like an anti-pop song in which, yeah- it’s gonna be plastered all over the top 40 stations, but it’s not your typical pop song. Reminds me a lot of Halsey to an extent. Speaking of which, she’s Halsey is quite possibly my favorite artist right now. Not just pop artist, mind you... I’m talking across the spectrum.

I'd say Halsy crossed with Lorde.

The restraint in it really is pretty incredible, she pretty much mumbles the entire thing, barely getting over a murmor. Certainly a contrast to the Taylor Swift school of pop song that is BIG AND BRIGHT

I saw today that Billie Eilish song has knocked Old Town Road off the top of the Billboard 100....

Also surprised Oliver hasn't been in here about a million times already!

Sorry I'm using my phone and can't get it to work.

Lana del Ray "video games". Its old now, came out early 2010s. I even bought the album I dug her stuff so much.

In many ways Lana Del Rey broke the ground that Lorde, Billie Elish and hundreds of other singers like them are still building on.

As a kind of related asside a few years ago an Aussie metal band called Amity Affliction did a pretty good cover of her song Born To Die https://youtu.be/eZS6K2dXNrA

My Spotify doesn't call up too much pop music, but I think I must have listened to too much eighties music, because I've been recommended this....

    That was really cool Sam.

I like the switch between clean vocals and screams and the familiarity of the lyrics.

I also like Rihanna circa early 2010s. She has one hell of a singing voice.

Rihanna’s Rated R is one hell of an album. Why she continues to focus on releasing absolute garbage like “Bright Like A Diamond” or “Give Me My Money” baffles me.

Yeah, she hasn't done much of any interest for ages.

What about that Cardi woman? She's more rap than pop. Kinda like minaj. As far as I can tell she's really big at the moment. Had a rough past, one of those success stories.

Yeah, I'd say she was more rap than pop too, as you've pointed out.

The pop song I've heard most in the last few months, on the radio a lot, is that Camilla Cabello/Shawn Mendes thing, Senorita. I usually like the latin pop thing but this one didn't really strike the same chord with me. But it's been everywhere.
