    Matt Hardy's Woken Thread

So we are now well into the Woken Universe and all the craziness that comes with it.

How are we feeling about it? There is no shortage of great tag teams on Raw him and Wyatt to feud with. I didn't mind the Ultimate Deletion and a tag version would certainly be something I'd be up for. Who should be the first team to take them on there?

If I had to pick the eventual team to beat them it would be AOP going into the Hardy Compound and just tearing the place up, potentially causing a "Siesmic Shift in the Woken Universe," tell me you can't hear Hardy saying that.

Pete's most hated thing in modern wrestling!

I was a big fan of Matt's run in TNA. I admit I haven't checked out much of the WWE stuff as it seemed to lose a lot of steam in the interim, but I dig Matt's creativity, and the fact that he managed to get paychecks for basically his whole extended family out of this whole weird deal.

I don't know about that, there's enough hate to go around!

They don't go all the way with the gimmick in WWE so if you liked it in TNA.. its not the same.. If you hated it, likely a minor annoyance in WWE... its more a problem that we have to see Matt and Bray wrestle. I think they're reasonably over but i don't look forward to their matches at all.

I think you underestimate just how strongly I feel about it. I'd rather watch El Gigante wrestle on a loop than engage with the woken/broken world.

That said - it's a funny situation because it's easily skipped. And because I'm not that into WWE I don't mind skipping stuff. But having to skip also means I'm never going to be that into a product. I'm not really someone who can be fully invested and dip in and out, which seems to be becoming more of the norm in wrestling today.

At the risk of sounding positively ancient, in the old days there was a three ring circus thing going on so if you didn't like the champion, you had the tag teams, and if you didn't like the tags you had the brawlers, and if you didn't like the brawlers there was always a high flyer, and so on. But there was always a kind of baseline by which if you didn't like something, it wasn't completely offputting. Now it seems like everything is dialled up to 11 in a desperate search for attention and it's nearly impossible to sit through things you don't like.

Just another sports-entertainment/wrestling thing, I guess.

Oh yeah, that's stuff horseshit, haha. Not looking to coming to that in my rewatch. I might just close my eyes and think of Tully.

Anyway.... Jeff doesn't have a thread so this seems a decent place to put it. Just heard he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence. Not great, especially with his history.

Really sucks. I'm not the #1 Jeff Hardy fan but I was glad when he got clean (or seemed to, at least) after the Victory Road fiasco, and I think he quietly put on some of his better work between then and now. Hope he doesn't go careening back down a destructive road.

I'm not saying it doesn't matter but he's still working and you would think if WWE thought there was a problem, they would have sent him to rehab. Or refused to let him work..

The trouble with that is there clearly is some kind of problem, because he just plead guilty to driving under the influence.

Well yeah, i'm just saying if WWE thought it was a major problem, they would have stepped in.. its not like they don't know Jeff's history. They've let him go before.

  13. #13
It was a plea deal that they knew was coming. I doubt anything happens. If something was to happen it likely would have been when he got it a couple months back.

Does anyone know what is wrong with Matt? Whenever he wrestles it looks like he has back or leg issues, with the way he gets up from the ring or ground and the way he walks.

He's been like that for years.

Yeah he’s had a permanent limp for a while. I picture him in constant pain from the way he moves but hope he isn’t.

I think it happened like right after he left WWE at the time. i think all the middle rope leg drops screwed up his knees... oddly, i don't think he's in a ton of pain, its just now he can't bend properly.

think that's seperate to his other issues, but i guess also related. Doing a leg drop off the top seems really stupid considering how Hogan fucked up his back by doing the normal leg drop....

    That's the price you pay.

Jeff Hardy has also said the Swanton hurts him so he has to land on the guys flush more now.

Doesn't sound like anyone particularly cares anymore given the non-activity in this thread, but the reports are Matt Hardy was written off WWE TV last night, probably for good.

I fell asleep duing RAW and I just read how and it is a good thing. His contract is up March 1. And since he was not released, I do not think there is a non-compete clause, so he could show up in AEW as the leader of the Dark Order March 4th.

I'm pretty sure Christopher Daniels is going to be the leader of the Dark Order, though.

Hopefully Matt can make some moves for himself outside of WWE if he chooses to go that way. Jeff's had his contract frozen for nearly a year due to his knee injury, so it looks unlikely that we'll get the Hardy Boyz for a while.

Boooo...I want Daniels to retire. He looks bad, sloppy and old. And the worst is when he tried to dance during SCU's entrance, as I have said, he looks like a Dad poorly dancing at his daughter's Sweet 16 to his daughter's music, bad and embarrassing.

However, a heel Fallen Angel interacting with the Broken Matt Hardy...interesting. Did that ever happen in TNA?

Then both should go into non-wrestling creative roles. Be guys in charge of groups and creative ideas, and on screen, but not in the ring.

I would be surprised if WWE has not offered that role to Matt Hardy. But I seem to remember he's publicly said he's not ready to retire.

Reports are coming out, from Hardy, that he says one of the primary reasons he wants to leave is over lack of creative freedom. I’m not entirely surprised by this.

Neither am I. Matt wants to be Broken, and WWE is saying he's low priority at his age. I like Hardy, and last night's promo was one of his best. But he needs to consider retirement as he doesn't have a lot to offer in the ring. Any company that hires him would be best to offer 6 month contracts only.

But even if he goes to Impact, AEW, ROH... I think he's in for a shock at how low on the totem pole he will be.

I know we said it previously on this thread, but I think that he will be the one behind the Dark Order, and not Daniels. Why else would he not re-sign with WWE for more money and stability.

AND technically his brother still works there, even with his persona non grata status.

I do not see Hardy going to AEW to be another cog in the machine, but in some sort of prominent role, like the leader of The Dark Order.

Yeah, the Broken stuff was pretty cool and on some level revolutionary at the time, but the business has moved on. Lucha Underground isn't around doing the cinematic promo stuff anymore. I guess Impact still produces some similar stuff, so maybe that's where he'll find his home but he'll likely be lumped in as a secondary figure around Rosemary, Su Yun, etc.

Maybe he just wants to create that stuff and doesn't care where he falls in the pecking order? If that's the case, I don't get why he wouldn't keep the WWE money and just create Broken stuff on his own in his spare time.

I don't see ROH jumping on the Broken Universe. Nor NWA. The tone wouldn't really fit in AEW, but he could come in as the leader of the Dark Order.

I feel like anything that they put out in 2020 is going to feel like a retread of a four year old idea. There's not much new ground to cover in the Broken Universe. It's been done, there's not a lot of novelty left, and it's not where the business is really sitting in 2020.

Maybe there's a group of loyal "Broken" fans that'll eat it up?

I think he should just create his own content and get it out there. He probably doesn't need the money, so maybe retire and produce Broken Universe stuff in his spare time.

So on AEW last night, JR referred to the Young Bucks as the 'Bucks of Youth', and it did not go unnoticed by Hardy, who used to call them that. Then both Hardy and JR took to twitter implying that they will be seeing each other soon. Now this could all be conjecture, but there is now even more speculation that Hardy will be revealed as the 'Exalted One', leader of the Dark Order, and JR's comment was deliberate foreshadowing.

JR referred to The Young Bucks as “The Bucks of Youth” on commentary, which is a well-known name from Matt. Dave Meltzer speculated on the name-drop during Wrestling Observer Radio and said the mention could have something to do with Hardy, who has been rumored to be revealed as the leader of The Dark Order after he’s done with WWE. Ross used the name during a segment that saw The Bucks make the save for SCU as they were being attacked by The Dark Order.

Fans noted on Twitter that they believed this name-drop had to do with Hardy, possibly as an “Easter Egg” of some kind. Matt responded to a fan comment on how JR used the “Bucks of Youth” name.

Matt wrote, “He did? Nothing’s sacred anymore. In all seriousness, I wouldn’t be who I am today without @JRsBBQ’s assistance. JR always has my blessing to use the term ‘Bucks Of Youth.'”

JR responded to Matt’s tweet this morning and said he hopes their paths cross again soon.

“Thanks Matthew! Hope our paths cross again sooner than later,” Ross wrote back.

I just thought of something (but I'm sure someone else already posted this somewhere) but what if this Free the Delete, and injury angle, and general social media activity is to bring Broken or Woken Matt back to WWE?

I do not think so. There has been no indication that Hardy is re-signing. He wants to have creative freedom, and I do not think that Vince wants the Broken Universe back.

You're going by the super important and reliable rumors that I'm such a huge fan of.

Forgetting dirtsheet BS, and judging only by his own content and what he has done on TV the last 2-3 weeks, I think it's possible.

I won't agree with that, but it was a great part of WWE TV in that era.
