I was way more interested in getting the clothing, but since I'm getting tired of the message that I need to get rid of something every time I kill an animal, maybe I'll start tracking down animals for the satchels, too.

I can't find a goddamn pristine elk. It's really starting to piss me off.

Where you hunting? I found plenty of them at the top right of the map.

I tried there, I tried in the middle right where the picture of the elk is, I tried around Valentine. Found a few poor and good ones, but not a single pristine one. Googling it, there are others having that same problem. There seems to be a lower percentage of pristine elk than other animals.

I got one last night and got two perfect deer pelts and stole a coyote pelt on my way back to camp.

I murdered a traveler who had a perfect coyote pelt and two good wolf pelts last night. I spent about five hours just roaming the southeastern part of the map past Blackwater because the campaign really doesn't take you in there.

    I think you mean southwestern.

Yes. Lots of familiar sites from the first game.

One frustration I haven't mentioned here is that I can't believe how hard it is to hold up people in this game; to acquire the first bandit mission, you have to hold up 5 townspeople, but 80% of the time, they will stand up to you and fight instead. It's crazy.

Oh Wow. So you can go back to places from the first game. That is pretty damn cool. I'll have to make sure I go down there once things chill in Blackwater.

There's actually a glitch where you can "teleport" to Mexico.

Interesting. I always found Mexico the least interesting area of the first game. I think it was the characters there didn't connect with me as the ones in the first and third chapters did. Still would be cool to go back there.

Just got to Chapter 3 and I love the contrast in setting. Instead of being stsndoffish the people of the south are all welcoming. Also everything is a bit greener suiting the tropical nature. The attention to detail in this game I something else.

I just got to Chapter 3

I've got to be closing in on chapter 4. The small details in this game are nuts.

It's big, there's so much to do at that point. I also just braided my horses tail. I feel the need to change its name to the EST of RDR.

I've named my horses after wrestlers:
    Edge
    Dean
    Eddie

Unfortunately I got into a big scrap and while trying to flee Dean was shot so he is no longer around.

I don't really like the horse customisation options a whole lot. Kinda just like the normal hair with a normal tail.

I completed a mission that gave a bunch of money and I'd upgraded everything in the camp so I did some horse and gun pimping lol. I love that Rockstar of all company profanity check horse names. I couldn't call mine Punani.

I guess they do walk a very fine line. With game plays so popular now, I am guessing they don't want to risk a huge story coming out showing someone calling their horse something that they could get a lot of stick for. They want to retain control over their own profanity.

I am finding the use of masks ridiculous. What's the point of wearing them when the law can see right through them?

Got the hunting challenge of skinning 3 bears last night; next one is to kill 5 cougars with arrows and skin each one; since I have only seen two cougars the entire time so far, that will likely take me a while. I'm also stuck on the bandit challenges, as I don't have a horse fence at Clemens Point yet to sell horses to.

I think I’m at the end of Chapter 3 now. Am still absolutely enthralled.

Haven’t played any online yet. How have people found it?

Not played for 2 weeks. Not through boredom but through insane amounts of work. Waiting out to Christmas now I think. I'd just started chapter 4. Not even peeped online yet.

GTAO was very much like that at the start too. I will let them fix it a bunch before diving in

Yeah, I was weighing the pros and cons of participating more with the beta and I would much rather keep playing the campaign version of the game; at least for now. Once everybody settles in, maybe people won't be sniping you when you stop for a second to view the map.

Yep, I was right, I was right at the end of Chapter 3.

I've now been to Saint Denis and have to say that they did a great job and making it a whole repulsive place especially in comparison to the clear skies and open plains of the rest of the game. The first thing you see is the smog and then the towers. Even the rich places of the city look dirty and I feel it is very accurate as to how these places would look turn of the century. I really dislike being there and feel like I'm meant to feel that way.

    Interesting commentary on modernisation honestly.

I need a perfect cougar pelt to get my last satchel plus I'm on hunting challenge 6, which is to kill 5 cougars with the bow and skin them, so I went hunting for cougars yesterday. I already had 2 of the challenge done and almost right away in the location I went to I got a third, but it was of poor quality. I used the time to get a few other perfect pelts--a racoon, two boar, a ram, and a cow elk; along with a couple of good wolf ones. This also, of course, leaves the animal carcasses out as bait to attract predators and scavengers. It ended up working a little too well. For the first time ever, I saw two black bears together, and they ran away from me, so I tracked them due to theorizing that there wouldn't be both a bear and cougar spawning in the same location. I was able to get one of them--and a good pelt, ugh--but not both, as the second ran away.

Since a trapper location popped up in that area, I decided to go sell the pelts I didn't need at camp--everything except the boar pelts--and because I already had the elk pelt on my horse, I decided to carry the bear pelt the short distance over there. I was about 20 feet away from the trapper when a grizzly attacked me. As I was fighting it off, I heard a cougar growl, and thought, "Uh oh." I shot the grizzly, but only wounded it and it started coming back around, but then took off the other way. I see a red dot coming from the opposite direction on my screen and got jumped by a cougar. I threw it off, and raised my bow, but it was too quick and tore my throat out before I could fight it off due to being already weakened by the grizzly attack. So...apparently bears and a cougar can spawn at the same relative time around the same area and the only one of my pelts I was able to keep was the racoon one in my satchel. A wasted afternoon, but kind of funny.
